Join us for our March program on board development and engagement. Key takeaways from the program will include:

  • How to identify potential board members
  • How to clearly communicate board expectations
  • How to fill talent gaps on the demographics of an effective board
  • How to effectively vet board candidates
  • Making the board “ask”
  •  How to effectively engage board members in fulfilling their roles and expectations

Speakers:

Marcy McKay, chapter board recruiter for Gift of Adoption Fund, is also a volunteer fundraiser. With undergraduate and graduate degrees in English, McKay spent much of her career working in healthcare and medical publishing and in public relations. Marcy was the lead author of “Guatemala Travel and Etiquette: A Guide for Adoptive Parents,” a guidebook that was named the Top Travel Resource for Guatemala by Adoptive Families magazine. She has been a volunteer speaker and fundraiser for various adoption and charitable groups.

Steve Pratapas, president of Pratapas Associates, LLC, has over 35 years experience leading and developing not-for-profit organizations. Prior to starting his fundraising consulting firm, Steve served 16 years as President & CEO of the Greater Illinois Chapter - National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Prior to the MS Society, Steve served 10 years with Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago initially as an Executive Director at one of their community facilities and then as Chief Development Officer for all the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. Steve has successfully recruited and enlisted corporate and community leaders to provide leadership and support to numerous not-for-profit boards. Steve is a recognized leader in the profession, and frequently presents on topics of board and volunteer leadership development and major fundraising campaigns, applying both his real life experiences and knowledge in these two areas.
