    Executive Director, HCS Family Services, Hindsale

    About the Opportunity:

    The Executive Director provides visionary leadership for HCS, ensuring that it is serving the community in a manner consistent with its mission. This role reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its strategic goals, financial objectives, and successful day-to-day operations. High level overview of the role includes: Lead programming, administration, and implementation of all programming and operations. Lead all community outreach, fundraising, and communication activities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Lead administration of all HCS Family Services programs and operations (i.e., two food pantries, rent/utility assistance, holiday assistance, etc.)

    • Hiring, retention, and performance management of staff
    • Lead staff priorities (e.g., performance management goals, staff meetings)
    • Lead new initiatives (i.e., school-based pantry opening, pantry redesign, etc.)
    • Manage relationship with Northern Illinois Food Bank
    • Manage HCS volunteer network as well as building and staying connected with potential volunteers and demonstrating appreciation for volunteers
    • Develop holistic approach to data gathering and analysis with a focus on evaluating and improving HCS’s impact


    Manage HCS’s financial position, including developing annual plans, managing the operating budget, anticipating financial needs, and above all else, maintaining financial integrity  

    • Annual budget preparation
    • Annual audit review and tax preparation support (with auditor)
    • Ongoing bill payment and monthly financial reporting (with bookkeeping firm)


    Fundraising to meet/exceed annual plan targets.

    • Prepare grant applications
    • Prepare annual appeal and other fundraising efforts
    • Cultivate donor relationships
    • Prepare thank you communications for donors
    • Event Leadership (e.g., Blues/Brews/BBQ, Neighbors Helping Neighbors)


    Communicate with Board of Directors.

    • Prepare for/participate in monthly Board of Director meetings
    • Provide weekly written activity summaries


    Oversee marketing activities

    • including creation of HCS marketing materials, management of HCS Newsletter, Social media communication and website management


    Community Outreach.

    • Seek out, coordinate and participate in speaking engagements at local community organizations (e.g., religious organizations, schools, civic clubs, etc.)
    • Serve on community outreach teams (e.g., Hinsdale Executive Director Network, DuPage Hunger Coalition, Willowbrook Corner Coalition)


    Key Qualifications and Skills:

    • A bachelor’s degree in relevant field, masters a plus
    • Minimum of 8 years of collective coordinator/admin, outreach and marketing communication, board of directors’ communication and demonstrated leadership experience
    • Organization skills (ability to multi-task and establish priorities)
    • Basic Human Resources skill set
    • High level of integrity, passionate about fighting food insecurity and a desire to work in collaboration with multiple groups of people internally and externally to the organization
    • Passionate about food insecurity
    • Strong written and oral communication skills (including public speaking)
    • Technological competency with Microsoft Office, social media, etc.

    Salary will depend on experience, minimum starting is 88,000 annual salary
